Aurelio Fernandez-Concheso is a member of the international law firm Clyde & Co Caracas since 1992 and head of its Venezuelan Office since 1996.
Aurelio obtained his law degree from Universidad Catolica Andrés Bello, Venezuela on 1982. He has a Master of Law (LL.M.) in Admiralty Law from Tulane University (1983). He has been with Clyde & Co since 1991, and is one of the founders in Venezuela. He is the Maritime Law Practice Group manager and deals with complex contentious and non-contentious matters.
For over 25 years, Aurelio has represented a range of insurers, reinsurers, P&I clubs, shipbuilders, ship-owners and operators, offshore operators, banks, creditors, investors, in project finance and fleet acquisitions and financing vessel legislation and tax planning and also has handled multiple complex international litigation and arbitration in the area of transportation, insurance and reinsurance, international trade, energy and oil as well as commercial disputes.
He has been a Professor of General Maritime Law at Universidad Maritima del Caribe in Venezuela for more than fifteen years. He currently is Executive Councilor of the Committee Maritime International (CMI) and a Titulary Member of the CMI; Member and former Secretary General of the Iberoamerican Institute of Maritime Law; Member of the International Bar Association; Former President of the Venezuelan Maritime Law Association; Member of the British Chamber of Commerce; Member of the Venezuelan-American Chamber of Commerce and Member of the Lawyers Association of Caracas.
Aurelio has been a regular speaker not only in Venezuela, but also in Latin America and the United States, where he has had the opportunity to discuss several topics, including foreign investment in Venezuela as well as shipping law and business widely.
